5 Tips to avoid Holiday Stress
While you are shopping and cooking and doing all the things for family and friends this holiday season, don’t forget to pause and take care of yourself. Here is some supportive advice to help you navigate the season, ensuring you a stress-free holiday.
- Stay hydrated. This can’t be emphasized enough! Dehydration can sometimes cause feelings of anxiety, depression and fatigue. Conversely, staying hydrated directly affects your body’s cortisol levels and therefore can reduce stress. Drink plenty of water and non-caffeinated herbal teas. Don’t forget to hydrate your skin too with a moisturizing lip balm and lotions. NSC Immuskin Cream could help.
- Plan ahead. Whether it’s meals or gifts, you should have a plan on what you want to spend in money and in time. Keep track of events on a calendar to avoid getting over-committed. If you are hosting, create a menu ahead of time to help you stay organized and to make grocery shopping easier. Utilize curb-side pickup where available to avoid impulse buying.
- Make time for exercise. A short, brisk walk in the mornings or a light workout will spark more energy and help your body to relieve tension. Any form of exercise will release endorphins, which can lessen symptoms of depression.
- Create a relaxing environment. Listen to your favorite music. Diffuse some essential oils or light a few candles. Citrus scents can boost feelings of well-being. If the weather permits, get some fresh air and (sunshine) Vitamin D to boost serotonin levels, which improves your mood and helps regulate sleep.
- Practice self-care. Take a long bath. Get a massage or a pedicure. Schedule time for you. Self-care is not selfish. It helps you be the best version of yourself for others.
Keep the holidays in perspective. This season is about joy, spending time with your loved ones and making memories. Remember the true reason for the season.
